kboot-utils software package provides helper tools to generate a kboot.conf file, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install kboot-utils
kboot-utils is installed in your system.
Make ensure the kboot-utils package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep kboot-utils *
You will get with kboot-utils package name, version, architecture and description in a table
